LAST MEMORY OF MY SENIOR YEAR!

Wow! Time has surely gone by so fast. Just yesterday I can recall myself walking through the halls of Piper as a little Freshman. Now I'm a Senior and off to bigger and better things. One of my last memories would have to be the "Prom" I attended. Me and my friends decided not to go to the real prom, but instead make one of our own. We all decided to go to a Big Chutney Concert in the park. We didn't have to worry about spending hundreds of dollars on fancy dresses, crazy up-dos, new shoes and acrylic nails. We were able to spend our money wisely and at a place where we enjoyed the music and knew almost everyone there. After the concert we all went clubbing and I got to shake hands with one of my favorite Trinidadian artists, Ravi B! It was surely a night to remember! The things we did that night were unbelieveable, but we made the best out of everything and it's an event I will never ever forget!! CLASS OF '09!!!

WHERE IN THE WORLD...?

I would love to go back home to Guyana! I was born in Gerorgetown, Guyana, but left when I was only eight months old and never went back. Guyana is located in South America, right between Suriname and Venzuela. I've never been able to explore my home country and to do so would be a dream. I would finally be able to say that I lived life like how they did back home. In Guyana, there are many farms and each family usually has a cows, chickens and many other animals to tend to. It would be cool to actually take part in doing those things. Also, I could go and visit the gold and diamond fields as well as Katieur Falls. There would be so much to do and so much to explore if I ever get the chance to go back home!

FIRST DAY OF FRESHMEN YEAR

The first day of freshman year was mortifying! I was scared out of my mind to go a school where I heard there was about 3000 students attending it. My middle school teachers would tell me that Piper High was like a mini city. Back then I was very shy and barely spoke to anyone. So the thought of being amongst so many students wasn't very pleasing. Before school started me and my mom came to Piper's Freshman Orientation to get acquainted with the school. I found out where my class was and went to go find it that same day, so when the first day rolls around I wouldn't be scrambling to find it. Finally, the first day comes around and I get dressed in my new clothes and shoes wanting to look good and try to fit in. As soon as my mom dropped me, I went straight to my class and just waited for the bell to ring. To my surprise, no one took me as a freshman. A majority of the students thought I was a senior! The first day was a good one. I found all my classes, got to know my teachers and even made a new friend. But as I look back, I've seen how much I've grown and matured and will never have to relive that day again. Well, at least until I get to college!

MY FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN

The first day of Kindergarten was horrific. The day before I was all excited hearing about all the fun I would have in school and all the friends I would make. My cousins made it seem like the best place in the world. When my mom and I arrived at school the next day and walked me to the classroom I began to ball!! I don't think I ever cried that much before! I cried and cried and cried. The staff, plus my mom tried there best to keep me calm and quiet, but no I was a rebellious little girl and I continued on with my tantrum. I remember I kept telling my mom that I don't want to stay here and that I want to go home. But eventually she had to leave and I was all alone with all these other kids and adults. It took me quite some time before I stopped crying and calmed myself down. When I did I was finally able to get used to the idea of school and ended up having a pretty good first day =)

INTERESTING NEWS: 7 HOSPITALIZED AFTER OFFICE FRIDGE CLEAN UP

In San Jose, California an office worker was cleaning out a fridge full of rotten food. With all the food combined, the smell became so intoxicating that seven co-workers had to be sent to the hospital. Many others became ill. Firefighters had to evacuate the AT&T building and a hazmat team was called in. Crews found an unplugged refrigerator packed with old moldy food.
According to authorities, an office worker decided to clean out the fridge and placed all the food in a conference room. He used two highly smelling chemicals to scrub the fridge down. The mixture of the old food and disinfectants caused about 28 people to need treatment for nausea and vomiting. Authorities even say that the woman cleaning out the fridge couldn't smell a thing, she had allergies.

A FREE POST: RAVI B.

Ravi Bissembhar, or better known as Ravi B. is the lead singer of the caribbean band "Karma." He took second place at the Soca Chutney Monarchs in Trinidad for his famous song "Dularie Nani." He is one of my favorite singers and very good looking too. I had the opportunity to meet him in person and shake hands with him. (You know I didn't wash my hand after that meeting with him!) Even though he is new to the Caribbean music industry he is very talented and has already won the hearts of many. I hope he continues with his many great chutney songs and that I get to see him again soon! I LOVE RAVI B.

FREE FREE FREE!!

The reason why I chose an Ipod is because it's FREE! Well, not only that, but it's because it's something I've never had and it's something I've always wanted. I love music and I love to to fall asleep with my MP3 plugged into my ears. But the thing is my MP3 only hold about 1000 songs and well, that's not enough storage! I also do a lot of performances, so being able to have all my remixes and songs on one ipod would be the best. The MP3 is okay, but the worst thing about is because it really doesn't have a screen and you have to search through until you find the song. With the Ipod, there's a screen and you're able to scroll through all the songs at once. That's why an Ipod would make the ideal free item!

SOMETHING YELLOW

Haldi, is a yellow dye that is rubbed on the skin of the bride and groom prior to the Hindu wedding ceremony. It is made by mixing tumeric with water. This is known as a beautifying cermony in the Hindu religion. During the ceremony, the bride/groom is surrounded by his/her family and friends and they apply the dye to the skin. Most of the times they sing "haldi" songs or songs in hindi about the ceremony taking place. The haldi is supposed to lighten and beautify the brides/grooms skin before his/her wedding day. Basically, it a cleansing and purifying ritual. The dye is meant to be rubbed on the skin of those who still have their innocence. Yet, people that have gone against religion and culture still go ahead with it anyway. ;)

SAFE "SEXTING?" NO SUCH THING, TEENS WARNED...

Teens that send nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves over their mobile phones are being warned that "sexting" can and will damage your future. Australia's state government of New South Wales launched an educational program about teens sending these pictures through their phones and even online. The program let's teens know that the pictures can be forwarded to anyone and it can ruin your reputation. These images can be classified as child pornography and can be punishable by law.

It's stated that young people do not think about the consequences of their actions. "What they think is an innocent joke or harmless flirting can be very damaging if it falls into the wrong hands," said NSW Community Service Minister Linda Burney in a statement. One girl even commited suicide when her nude pictures began circulating around her school. Officals urge that parents speak to their children about the matter and keep an eye on their Facebook and even their MySpace profiles. It's best to be safe, rather than sorry.

SENIOR PRANKS

Senior year was finally coming to an end, but no one knew what their senior prank was going to be. They had ideas of letting mice loose in the hallways or releasing crickets in the cafeteria. Those pranks were pretty fair, but the graduating class of 2009 wanted to do something a little more original. After school one day, a majority of the seniors huddled together and started planning on what they could do to leave their mark on the school. They came up with a week full of ideas. On the first day, they filled the drinking fountains with soap and as soon as someone turned it on, it began to foam and bubble out into the halls. For the next prank, they filled the air ducts with tuna and as soon as the air came on the next day, the school reeked of fish! Everyone had to be evacuated until the odor was gone. The third day was completely priceless. They hung bras and jock straps from a tree and just let them all sway in the wind. The principal of the school was getting fed up and made an announcement that whoever was responsible for these acts would not get to walk the stage for graduation. Of course, the seniors didn't pay much mind to what she had to say. Day four came around and the students decided to saran wrap one of the most hated teachers classrooms. All the chairs, desks and even the ceiling had saran wrap hanging from it. But the last prank the seniors pulled was completely genuine. They sent out text messages, myspace bulletins and whatever else they could to get the word out. It was 12:00pm and all senior eyes went to the clock. The plan was for all the seniors to get up and walk out of their classrooms! Some students chickened out, but almost all of them left their classrooms and walked out of school. Security just stood dumbfounded as the students walked right past them. The Principal came on the intercom and made an announcement that if anyone left, they would be suspended. Of course, she couldn't suspend the whole class, so she as well had to let them go. The class of 2009 definitely went down in the history books for this one! And of course no one was suspended and they all were able to walk the stage at graduation.

STARDUST

Stardust Magazine is a magazine based on Bollywood news. Bollywood is the Indian version of Hollywood. In the magazine you can basically find gossip, the latest news and advertisements about single brides looking for grooms!! I chose this specific cover because it has two of my favorite actors on it, Abhishiek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. This magazine announces their wedding. The two have worked opposite each other in many films, but no one expected the two to tie the knot. It seems that their wedding was arranged by their parents and so far it seems like a match made in heaven.

SINDOOR

Sindoor is a red poweder applied to a woman's part in her hair or "maang." In Hinduism, this shows that a woman is married. The groom applies the red poweder to her hair and it shows that she is now under his protection. The color red symbolizes strength and love. Single woman usually wear colorful bindi's or dots on their forheads, but never apply the sindoor to their hair. Widows do not apply this symbol of marriage either. The sindoor, also known as "kumkum," is pepared by mixing powdered and burnt betal nut with tumeric together.

INTERESTING NEWS: McCurry

McCurry's is an Indian fast food restaurant in Malaysia that serves Indian dishes as well as Malaysian ones too. At the restaurant you can expect to eat fish head curry and other delectables. The McDonald's food chain has allegedly sued them for using the prefix "Mc" on there sign and in order to conduct business. Although they may have used the prefix, the two restaurants are completely different. One serves American Fast Food, the other Indian Fast food. So, there should be no concern about what prefixes are used to conduct business.
